Zaki was for many years the legal counsel for Umno and had also served on the party's Disciplinary Committee.
The Malaysian Insider understands that the Rulers Conference meeting in Kuala Terengganu has consented to the appointment.
Zaki replaces Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamed who retires tomorrow. His elevation comes just one year after his controversial appointment as a Federal Court judge.

Abdul Hamid said his final request would be that his successor, other judges and bodies within the judiciary “take good care” of the judiciary.

Suara suara luar, tidak puas hati, tohmahan dan sebagainya tidak dapat dielakkan ketika orang politik bercakaran untuk mengekalkan, mendapat sokongan untuk terus berkuasa atau merampas kuasa.
Mereka seumpama anjing yang akan menyalak bila lapar, dan diam bila dah dapat dan menyalak lagi bila ada mangsa baru. kalau ikut perangai orang politik, sampai bila pun penjawat awam dan sebagainya tak boleh buat kerja.

If public perception is given weight, than Zaki would have turned down this appointment. i am more concerned with his antics, when he took on a second wife sometime ago, and how he ' cerai " her! Law abiding ? or should we say that was his private indiscretions and should not be taken into account.
